In this article, we will help Bob(one of our many customers) configure his shipping rates based on weight for different shipping zones while using WooCommerce Table Rate Shipping Pro. Read below to know more.

Most WooCommerce store owners prefer shipping rates calculation to get real-time shipping quotes from different shipping carriers. This is mainly because of the difference in their shipping rates and not having any flexibility to increase or decrease the shipping charges. However, for those store owners who are looking for a flexible shipping rate calculation, WooCommerce Table Rate Shipping Pro is a one-stop shipping solution.

According to Bob, a WooCommerce store owner,”…I want to set up shipping table rates, but I don’t know really how I should configure a postal code range and pricing related to the weight. This is the case for the Netherlands where all postal codes starting with ’40’ (and everything behind it) until all postal codes starting with ’72’, is in Zone 1, for example, postal codes like ‘5532AB’, ‘5411WW’ and ‘5804DK’ fall in ‘Zone 1’.
Now, if a visitor is from this zone and has a total weight of 1kg in the cart, he should pay €42,50 for shipping. If a visitor is from this zone and has a total weight of 2kg in the cart, he should pay €67,50 for shipping and so on.

Configuring Shipping Zones

Calculation of shipping rates, in the case of Bob, will include setting up shipping zones across the Netherlands. To be able to set up the shipping rules we require adding ZIP codes to shipping zones. Once that is done, you can easily configure shipping rules based on the product weight.

So, from Bob’s example, we will now configure shipping rates for Zone 1 based on the product weight.

Create Shipping Rules

The WooCommerce Table Rate Shipping Pro plugin allows WooCommerce store owners to create shipping rules based on which they can calculate their shipping costs. After successfully creating the shipping zones and adding the ZIP codes to the shipping zones, you can go to the Settings tab and enable the option stating ‘Enable/Disable Shipping Method‘. Then you need to select the following Matrix Columns,

  • Method Title
  • Shipping Zone list
  • Weight
  • Rate Based On
  • Base Cost

After saving the settings, you can create your rules in the Shipping Rules tab. Once Bob has successfully created his shipping rules, the configuration would be something similar to the following image.

    Hi,

we would need a plugin which helps us to calculate the shipping fee to different countries, according to the zones and the weight of the product.

    Country Zones example:

Austria, Poland, Germany –» are in zone 2.
Belgium, Bulgaria, UK, Denmark –» are in zone 3.

We have a table with the weight ranges and the prices:

    WEIGHT – PRICE 2.ZONE – PRICE 3.ZONE
    Between 5-6 kg – 6306 HUF – 7593 HUF
    Between 6-7 kg – 6768 HUF – 8178 HUF

Do you think with this plugin we can calculate the shipping fee correctly?

    Thanks a lot,
    Kata

      Hi Kata,

As per my understanding, you want configure based on ‘weight’ for your zones.
Say for ex: For Zone 2; weight range (5-6); base cost is 6306
For Zone 3; weight range (5-6); base cost is 6768

If this is the case, then yes, your requirement can be definitely fulfilled with the plugin.

      Hope that helps!
      Regards,
